About 7.10 p.m. on the 3rd instant, I was on duty in Temple Street South when I saw a man who was carrying a basket

I approached towards him, he then hurried on, and kept dodging from pillar to pillar. I then suspected he was not
and he went there for a lawful purpose, so followed him up, into house No 60 Temple Street S. I went in after him, and on enquiring found he was hawking. I then left him alone, and he went away. I beg leave to state, that, I hope the A. C. S. of Police, will take into consideration, the brothels are on the first floor, and that the sitting room, as the mistress said, is not used as a place for prostitution. My whole reason for entering the house was on a Police duty point.

Having entered the house for the above reason, I beg to state that I am sure not more than six sentences passed between anyone in the house (including the hawker) and myself, and at
hope the most I was not in the house longer than 2 minutes. the A. C. S. of Police will take into consideration the brevity of time I was in the house, and for 24 minutes to constitute a charge of gossiping and idling on duty. Since I have been in
